Cardio Kickboxing is a high intensity workout that involves a combination of self-defense basics, strength training and HIIT intervals—while maintaining a particularly important vision.

“The class is never redundant or repetitive,” said class instructor Nat Hansuvadha. “While I repeat some kickboxing combinations, I like to focus on different muscle groups for each class and utilize everything from resistance bands and light weights to different punch combinations.”

Tuned to music with a fast beats-per-minute pace, the class is laced with seamless transitions between kickboxing combinations, HIIT intervals and cool down exercises. While maintaining a core 30 to 40 minute routine of cardio kickboxing, Nat ensures the class promotes a holistic fitness experience.

“I can’t speak highly enough about the need for students to acquire foundational self-defense tactics, building up physical endurance and boosting stamina,” said Nat. “This class does just that.”

Nat also works as a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) class instructor, which adds to the intentionality of this class—which she has taught for the last 10 years.

“I see many female students and faculty who have fear of being assaulted or hurt, and it’s my mission to empower them with the skills, confidence and awareness to take care of themselves,” said Nat. “It’s an especially important mission for me as the only female self-defense instructor at the SRWC, a woman and a mother.”

Cardio Kickboxing takes place Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Pura Vida Fitness Room and is open to all members of the SRWC. For more information, visit www.asirecreation.org/fitness/group-fitness.
