New Year, Evolving Me

With the end of the year quickly approaching, many of us start to think about our New Year’s resolutions to improve ourselves. You might set ambitious goals and feel excited to start a new year, but as January goes by you find it difficult to stick to them. If this is you, you’re not alone. Let’s change that this new year by transforming those goals into a lasting lifestyle!

Amazing Intramural

This semester, we had record-breaking attendance in our Intramural Leagues and Tournaments, with an additional 200-250 participants compared with previous years. This incredible turnout made it our most successful season ever! We also received overwhelming sign-ups for our tournaments and Inclusive events. The semester started strong with our Pickleball Tournament, which attracted nearly 60 participants and set the tone for the rest of our tournaments.

As the end of the semester approaches, so does finals season. It’s easy to let your workout routine slip when you’re stressed out about exams but maintaining your physical and mental health is more important than ever. Taking a mental health break or taking the time to exercise does not have to interfere with your study schedule. Here at the SRWC, we offer a variety of options to recharge and stay balanced during the stress of finals.

The article discusses the importance of wearing sunscreen even on cloudy days to protect against UV rays and maintain skin health

It is getting cooler outside, and it is finally sweatshirt weather! This is an important and friendly reminder that wearing sunscreen is crucial even on cloudy days as we go into midterm season to finish out the Fall semester. All daytime visitors to the SRWC Aquatics Center should be wearing sunscreen! Did you know that a study by the National Library of Medicine (NIH) shows up to 80% of ultraviolet rays can penetrate even through cloud coverage? In another study conducted by NIH, UV rays can cause long-term skin damage, including premature aging and an increased risk of skin cancer, regardless of the weather.

People practicing yoga on the beach to improve flexibility and mobility

Flexibility and mobility go hand in hand. The more flexible you are, the greater mobility you can achieve. For that reason, it is important to train for flexibility to increase mobility and achieve a greater overall range of motion in your workouts. You may ask, “What is the difference between flexibility and mobility?” What differentiates flexibility from mobility is that flexibility focuses on the ability of the muscle to stretch as far as possible. Mobility is restricted by limited muscle flexibility, which prevents complete joint articulation.
