Fun with the SRWC Run Club!

Murphy’s Law states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. The same can be said when exploring the outdoors. Try not to get sidetracked while staring into the beauty of nature because when it comes to outdoor safety, it’s best to be prepared for anything. Here’s a few tips and tricks you can use for your next outdoor trip.

Preparation is a big part of outdoor safety. Before your trip, be sure to always check the weather beforehand and plan accordingly. If it is going to be on the colder side, bring a few extra layers. On hot summer days, make sure to watch out for the UV rating and have sunblock ready at all times. Tailor your gear for the adventure on which you’re going. From simple day hikes to densely packed trips, make sure to pack extra water, snacks, and even clothes – you never know what might happen!

Hike with a friend!Having a buddy system while hiking is both safer and makes the trip more memorable. However, when hiking alone, be sure to inform a friend or family member what trail you plan on taking and what times you are expected to finish the hike. Plus, always stay on the designated trails. All these combined, means if anything were to happen, you have safeguards already in place!

Bring essential supplies.First aid kits are the most important tool on any type of adventure trip. Cuts and blisters are some of the most common injuries while hiking and can sorely affect your enjoyment during the trip. First aid kits have the essential supplies such as band aids, bandages and medications that will ensure a fun, functional and safe trip. In addition, stay hydrated with plenty of water before, during and after your adventures!

Last, but certainly not least, have fun!
